The Fairies Pyjamas
is a boutique and traveling store of unique clothing, jewelery and other accessories.
The name, The Fairies Pyjamas, is a play on English sayings like "The Bee's Knee's" or "The Dogs Elbows", meaning roughly "the good stuff". With being Fair and Fairies in mind, playful whimsical fun designs which are unique AND comfortable to wear.
Creator and Designer, Michelle Lynn Johnson, Toronto began this ever evolving project in 2005 with sustainability in mind, creating Wearable Wire Art Sculptures made from recycled metals like Copper Wire. Traveling coast to coast selling her creations at festivals, she then spent one year in Australia with Kurt Saggers and The Cats Pyjamas. After doing the same gig in Oz she then travelled through China, through Tibet and into Nepal where she began to design and have clothing made. Since 2007 Michelle has been working with a member of The Fair Trade Federation to produce her designs and ideas in Kathmandu, Nepal. The process is very "hands on" and all her designs are original and unique. As well, mostly all designs are limited editions so every season is a new collection.
By employing Nepali's in a Fair Trade manner The Fairies Pyjamas is supporting healthy employment and dignity for the less fortunate but undoubtedly skilled Nepali crafts people.
Inspiration for her Pixie (Ladies) and Elven (Mens) and new Munchkin (kids) designs are rooted in a festive nature with many appropriate for everyday use as well. Asymmetrical angles, outside stitching, rich colors and stretchy soft cottons combine in all her collections for everybody body type. Each season ideas evolve keeping regular customers intrigued and Michelle's creative brain rolling. Fairy Dresses Funky shirts, fitted skirts, layering items and accessories like Belts with Pockets and fun hats. Michelle and The Fairies Pyjamas strive to have something for anyone and every budget with a wide variety of designs available in the travelling boutique at festivals and shows and in both locations in Toronto.
